Dan Morgan could easily be described as one of the best linebackers in college football history. In 2000, he became the first football player to win the Butkus, Bednarik and Nagurski awards, given to the best defensive player and linebacker in the nation, in the SAME year. Morgan finished that season with 138 tackles (15 for a loss), 4 sacks, and 2 interceptions. As athletic as Morgan is, he is most known for his toughness. He played most of the 2000 season with a sprained toe, which would knock most players out for a season. But what seperates Morgan from most linebackers, and players, is his humbleness and class. Despite winning all three great awards in the same season, he gave full credit to his squad. Morgan is also the latest in a long line of great linebackers, which include Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis and Michael Barrow among others. He will continue his career with the NFL Carolina Panthers, who selected him 11th in the 2001 NFL Draft. Scouts are impressed by his speed, which has been clocked at 4.58 seconds in the 40 yard dash, and his strength (360 pound bench press). Morgan maybe a great pro football player, we may never know, but he will leave his mark in the NFL as a tough competitor with class.
